Fused Slica Drilled Optical Dome Lens With Apex Hole Description
The Fused Slica Drilled Optical Dome Lens with Apex Hole is made from high-purity fused silica through precision cold working, grinding, polishing, and drilling processes. This optical dome lens, with a hole at its center apex, maintains broadband high-spectral transmittance and high mechanical strength. The center hole allows for installation positioning and cable placement. This product is primarily used in underwater imaging, LiDAR, and optoelectronic pods—applications requiring power and wiring. It offers the following advantages:
- Advanced CNC machining ensures smooth, chip-free edges on the opening. The center hole is highly precise and can also support through holes, stepped holes, and tapered holes.
- Fused silica has high transmittance in the 185-2100nm range, making it ideal for optical systems requiring multi-band transmission. Furthermore, the physical properties of fused silica allow the optical dome to withstand high pressure, scratches, and impacts.
- We offer flexible customization services based on customer drawings, including radius, radius of curvature, center thickness, hole diameter, and coating information.

Fused Slica Drilled Optical Dome Lens With Apex Hole Applications
Underwater Cameras
Underwater cameras operate in harsh environments, susceptible to high pressure, corrosion, and impact. Ordinary optical domes are prone to deformation and breakage. Fused silica domes with a central hole can be used for pressure balancing, cable and sensor routing, and even for mounting small supplementary lighting. This allows for a dual-purpose optical system that provides both optical protection and cable routing.
LiDAR
In LiDAR systems, optical domes with a top hole can be used for rotating shaft mounting, heating, and defogging. This ensures the LiDAR can operate normally and extend its lifespan even in harsh environments.
Optical Pods
Optical pods typically encounter high-speed airflow and temperature fluctuations during flight. The central hole on the top of the optical dome can be used to mount a camera, initiate heating, defogging, and provide mechanical positioning references. This optical window allows both visible and infrared light to pass through, enabling laser ranging or de-icing and defogging.
