550nm Shortpass Optical Interference Filter Description

The 550nm Optical Shortpass Filter is a high-performance interference filter designed to transmit visible light below 550nm and effectively block longer wavelengths (yellow light, red light, and near-infrared). It can clearly separate blue-green light from longer wavelength signals.

  • With a cutoff wavelength of 550±3nm, the filter ensures stable performance within the expected wavelength range.
  • The working range is 370–700nm, with a transmission rate of ≥90% within the passband, ensuring sufficient light signal intensity.
  • The optical density (OD) in the cutoff range is ≥4, effectively eliminating red light and infrared background interference, enhancing image contrast.
  • The substrate is made of D263T, which has low autofluorescence characteristics, making it very suitable for fluorescence imaging and spectral analysis. The thickness is 0.55mm, with optional ultra-thin thickness down to 0.2mm, suitable for compact or lightweight system designs.
  • We use a hard, durable coating process, giving the filter good wear resistance and environmental stability, suitable for various complex working conditions.

550nm Optical Shortpass Filter Applications

  • Fluorescence Imaging
Many commonly used fluorophores such as FITC, GFP, Alexa Fluor 488, and DyLight 488 have excitation spectra peaks in the 450-500nm range. A 550nm shortpass filter can be used as an excitation filter in fluorescence microscopy, selectively allowing only light with wavelengths shorter than 550nm from the light source to pass through and illuminate the sample. It blocks wavelengths longer than 550nm to prevent unwanted long-wavelength light from irradiating the sample, reducing background interference and sample photodamage/photobleaching. It effectively blocks long-wavelength background light and excitation light leakage, making weak fluorescence signals clearly visible.
  • Color Analysis
When measuring the absorption or reflection of samples at specific wavelengths, the sample itself or the measurement system may have background absorption or scattering in the long-wavelength region. This background signal interferes with the accuracy of target wavelength measurements. The 550nm Optical Shortpass Filter allows only light shorter than 550nm to participate in the measurement while effectively blocking light longer than 550nm, eliminating long-wavelength background interference to obtain more accurate absorbance or reflectance data in the blue/green light region.
  • Machine Vision
Specific color markers, fluorescent labels, and material reflection characteristics are mainly reflected in short-wavelength light (blue, green). Environmental light or object background may be strong in the long-wavelength range, causing interference. A 550nm Optical Shortpass Filter installed in the camera lens limits the received light to wavelengths shorter than 550nm. All information with wavelengths longer than 550nm in the scene is filtered out. After filtering out red and infrared light, the contrast between the target and background is enhanced
